Digital Money & Currency Forum 2016 Conference

On June 9, 2016, the Digital Money & Currency Forum Conference was held, dedicated to digital currencies (cryptocurrencies) and Blockchain technology. During the conference, legal aspects of the use of cryptocurrencies were discussed, as well as security issues in the digital world and the expected prospects for the further development of digital currencies.
During the conference, blockchain was described as a decentralized and transparent database (or distributed ledger) in which the recorded entries are linked together by a cryptographic signature. This technology is predicted to be very successful mainly because its specificity allows two independent parties to trust each other and be certain about the execution of the transaction. Blockchain can be used not only for transactions, but also in any case when two parties enter into a contract with each other. Blockchains are currently used primarily as systems on which digital currencies are based, thanks to which each transaction is potentially safe (apart from the possibility of hacker interference). During the conference, Bitcoin was considered to be the most well-known and widespread cryptocurrency at the moment. Bitcoin is not expected to develop significantly, but it is hard to imagine this currency disappearing from the market due to the huge expenditures invested in its infrastructure. Other more future-oriented currencies include the already widely known Ripple and Ethereum. A very promising project is The DAO, which is not actually a cryptocurrency, but operates within the Ethereum blockchain – its future is, however, a great unknown at this point.
