Conference "Innovative Economy. The Role of Economic Policy" - 14.09.2020

On September 14, together with the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Warsaw, we co-organized the conference "Innovative Economy. The Role of Economic Policy". The event focused in particular on issues related to innovation policy and the overall impact of various areas, methods and tools of economic policy on the innovativeness of the economy at the micro, meso and macroeconomic levels.
The invited guests – distinguished representatives of the public sector – discussed the challenges and opportunities facing Polish innovation policy, seeking answers to questions about: – key determinants of the innovativeness of the Polish economy, – model innovation policy in Poland, – methods of creating conditions for the development of innovative entrepreneurship, – methods of animating cooperation between public administration, the science sector and enterprises for the development of innovation, – methods of supporting the maturation of the innovation ecosystem in Poland, – strategies for improving the creation and transfer of technology to the economy. Prologue Hosted by prof. Ph.D. Katarzyna Śledziewska and Dr. Jarosław Górski (WNE UW), the conference was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, University of Warsaw, prof. Ph.D. Gabriela Grotkowska. During the opening speech, titled: The role of universities in the creation and transfer of innovations His Magnificence the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Ph.D. Alojzy Nowak spoke about the particular significance of the processes taking place in the academic environment for Polish innovation policies, especially the importance of universities financing researchers’ access to databases. In his speech, JM also mentioned the key role of cooperation between science and business – credibility, trust and support for basic and applied research. Prof. Ph.D. Marzenna Weresa, Director of the World Economy Institute at the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, gave a special lecture entitled: Challenges of Polish innovation policy, in which she took a close look at the issues raised during the conference, pointing out the latest global trends and reasons why Poland needs an innovation policy, as well as the challenges and dilemmas of Polish innovation policy, among others. in particular conditions of crises and (de)globalization. https://www.youtube.com/embed/m8miOA8z91g Scena 1 Jakie są determinanty innowacyjności gospodarki? The participants of the panel discussion during the first session of our conference wondered about this. As part of the presentation Foreign investment and global value chains (GVC) within multinational companies as determinants of innovation. Study at the level of companies in European countries, prof. Ph.D. Jan Jakub Michałek (WNE UW) presented the conclusions from the project of the research team (composed of: Prof. Ph.D. Andrzej Cieslik, prof. Ph.D. Jan Jakub Michałek, Dr. Krzysztof Szczygielski, Dr. Jacek Lewkowicz and Dr. hab. Jerzy Mycielski), looking at the impact of GVCs on countries' innovation. On the question What should we do to effectively transfer technology to the economy? wondered Bartosz Sokoliński, Director of the Development and Innovation Office at the Industrial Development Agency SA, pointing to the importance of cooperation between science and business and the eight major sins responsible for the insufficient level of Polish innovation. Paweł Kasprowicz from the Next Step Poland Project in his speech Innovation Ecosystem under Construction. Public sector experiences spoke about good practices in the innovation environment in Poland and the organization's work on a guidebook of good practices, based on, among others, solutions developed in other countries. https://www.youtube.com/embed/IkHrCLZueYw Scena 2 Druga sesja referatów dotyczyła zmian, jakie nastąpiły w politykach innowacyjnych na skutek pandemii. Prof. Ph.D. Krzysztof Opolski (WNE UW) gave a lecture entitled: Innovation as an economic and social phenomenon, looking at the discussed issue from the perspective of academic research and extensive practical experience in the field of management and consulting. In his speech, he highlighted the importance of diffusion of innovations and the process of achieving successful innovation implementation. Szymon Ciupa, sector advisor at the Association of Polish Cities, in his speech Accelerated digital transformation, i.e. smart city in the era of the coronavirus pandemic, talked about the change in the approach to digitization and solutions for cities in the era of COVID-19, as well as key areas of needs and challenges in cities during the lockdown. Prof. Katarzyna Śledziewska in the paper Competencies of the future. What does the pandemic teach us? analysed the situation of Polish companies in terms of readiness to face the institutional effects of the pandemic and recalled the conclusions of the study commissioned by the Polish Development Fund and Google Competencies of the Future. What is the movie education method based on in the phenomenon we are analyzing? Dr. Maciej Pietrzykowski (Poznań University of Economics) talked about this in his speech Movie education as an innovative method of improving competences in the field of sales and entrepreneurship, citing his own teaching experience in teaching entrepreneurship and conclusions from the crisis of traditional education, especially at the time of the pandemic, which exposed the technological maladjustment of the educational market. https://www.youtube.com/embed/6CKVp-aTn6g Scena 3 Do udziału w panelu dyskusyjnym konferencji „Innowacyjna gospodarka.
