September 19, 2016Presentation of the Report "Flatsharing Millenials"
On Monday, 19.10.2016, the latest DELab UW report for Gumtree.pl was presented – “Millennials Flatsharing – How They Live, How They Live, How They Get Along”
The press breakfast began with a presentation by Katarzyna Merska-Pietrak (Gumtree.pl Communications Coordinator) on the general results of the study. The results show that today's Generation Y students are looking primarily for peace and quiet and decent living conditions in rented accommodation, not necessarily for everyday parties and social gatherings. Then, the author of the report, Justyna Pokojska (UW sociologist and UW Digital Skills DELab program coordinator), confirmed that the results of the study present a completely different image of students than is commonly believed. Students decide to move out of home to have a quiet and peaceful place to study, but there is no question of constant parties. The results of the study also show that the young generation of Poles is tolerant of homosexuals - for 71,6% of students, living with a gay or lesbian would not be a problem. On the other hand, the openness to living with foreigners is moderate - 23,4% of the respondents would feel uncomfortable co-renting an apartment with them. What is equally interesting, students would least like to live with families with children – as many as 63% of respondents declared that this would be a problem for them. The breakfast devoted to the housing situation of students was summed up by Justyna Ziemińska, Director of the National Office for NZS Partners and a student of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Warsaw, who stated that the data revealing the whole truth about flatsharing – so different from the common opinion about student life – is particularly interesting on the eve of the beginning of the academic year.
