Internship: digitization of Twardowski's correspondence
As part of the internship lasting from November 20, 2014 to February 28, 2015, students participated in the digitization of Kazimierz Twardowski's correspondence stored in the Combined Libraries of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Warsaw and the Polish Philosophical Society, in the amount of 46 inventory units. The internship was organized by DELab UW and the Scientific Circle "PETRYCY".
The aim of the internship was to supplement the missing data of the Kazimierz Twardowski Digital Archive ELV-AKT in the part covering Kazimierz Twarowski's correspondence (files XVII to XLVI). The task of each of the interns was to enter the appropriate data contained in the correspondence (e.g. sender's address, date of posting, first sentence of the letter). In addition, the task was completed by entering key words in the appropriate column that were helpful in working on the letters (for example, in the letter from Kazimierz Twardowski to Tadeusz Kotarbiński, the subject of which was an article in the Racjonalista magazine, such a key word was the word "Racjonalista"). Eight interns, students of the University of Warsaw, worked on the correspondence. The work was supervised by two coordinators, who checked the data entered by them after completing the work, having previously undergone training with them, helped them in their work and were responsible for contact with the staff of the Combined Libraries. The interns' mission was successful. The students reliably and carefully developed the materials entrusted to them, expanded their competences in the field of digital humanities, and gained valuable experience in working with sources. In turn, the Kazimierz Twardowski Archive was supplemented with an extensive collection of meta-data describing the correspondence of the founder of the Lviv-Warsaw School. The internship would not have been possible without the help of the Combined Library of the Faculty of Philosophy and Sociology of the University of Warsaw, the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and in particular the director, Ms. Aleksandra Łabuńska, and the keeper of special collections, Mr. Łukasz Ratajczak.
