WHAT DO CAB DRIVERS EXPECT FROM THE STATE?

The digital revolution is sweeping across more and more sectors of the economy and changing the working conditions of different professional groups. Its impact can be clearly seen in the cab market and the platforms that directly connect cab drivers and passengers.

The world’s first cab ordering app, mytaxi, is part of this revolution. In the report, we look at cab drivers who use it in their work.

HOW ARE CAB DRIVERS COPING WITH DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION?

Digital drivers using the mytaxi app are not afraid of new technologies and see clear benefits from the platformization of the cab market. They are open to innovation and their digital competency allows them to seamlessly use the app instead of a telephone exchange. They are also entrepreneurial and resourceful – they adapt quickly to new realities in the marketplace and appreciate the flexibility in terms of working hours and course billing.

WHAT ARE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PASSENGER TRANSPORT MARKET?

Currently, platforms that bring together licensed cab drivers, such as mytaxi, and unlicensed drivers, whose activities raise questions from a legal perspective, coexist in the market. The surveyed cab drivers emphasize the unfairness of competition – drivers who do not pay for licenses, increased insurance covering the passenger or depreciation of the car marked as a cab in the registration certificate, or perform passenger transportation services without a work permit are willing to accept courses at a much lower price.

WHAT DO CAB DRIVERS EXPECT FROM THE STATE?

The surveyed cab drivers do not deny the principle of competition in the market, however they think that competition must be fair and the law must be clearly defined and obeyed – the current legal state is in their opinion unfavorable and unjust. They also emphasize that the lack of clear systemic solutions puts passengers at risk, as they have no guarantee that the driver has skills, a functioning car and adequate insurance.

[Konieczne jest] establishing such requirements to ensure the safety of cab passengers and the oversight of the carrier. The city should have control over the transporters and for the sake of rules of social intercourse, forms of transport without a cab license should be sanctioned - Cab driver
