We devoted the seminar to the results of a study by Dr Marcelia Tambuscio of the Austrian Academy of Sciences on the spread of information – especially disinformation – online and how this polarisation process occurs.
Network science and machine learning are powerful tools for studying phenomena related to human interaction. During the meeting, our speaker presented some of the research results concerning the spread of disinformation and opinion dynamics in social networks. She mainly focused on the idea that underlying social connections and the presence of communities with different behaviours play a very important role in the evolution of online conversation.
