The United States is characterised by a very different approach to the development of technology and its regulation, as well as to the protection of personal data, than is adopted in the European Union. The purpose of this article is to outline what impact the development and use of facial recognition technology in the US is having on the fundamental right to privacy and the lives of its citizens. The analysis is based on adopted and postulated legislation, current developments in the perception of the applicability of this technology and the regulatory priorities adopted for the coming years by the US authorities.
