#34 Foresight, or visionary planning a few steps ahead

The topic of the eighth episode of the second season of the podcast "Efekt Sieci" is the foresight method. This innovative forecasting of the long-term future places hope in the fact that a structured discussion allows for the successful construction of development scenarios. What is foresight and what are its effects on the planning of our social environment?

The expert of the episode is Prof. Wojciech Dziemianowicz from the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw and the substantive coordinator of the Foresight specialization at the University of Warsaw, who answers questions from Dr. Justyna Pokojska o:
– definition of the foresight method,
– the assumptions of the “social” creation of the future and the methods and tools that make it possible,
– differences between the foresight approach and traditional spatial planning,
– examples of specific scenarios prepared using this method: in Polish cities and regions, but also in the social space,
– the effects of the foresight approach and the determinants that allow us to recognize that we are dealing with “visionary thinking” and not ordinary planning,
– sources of the idea to teach foresight at the University of Warsaw and the areas in which students will work after completing the specialization.
